The first public university for women in South Punjab. Originally the historic Government Degree College for Women on Katchery Road, it was upgraded to a university to empower the women of Multan and Southern Punjab. It operates from two campuses: the historic Katchery Campus and the massive new Mattital Campus.
Established in 1947 as a college, it has a rich history of educating women in the region. It was upgraded to a university status in 2013 through an Act of the Punjab Assembly to address the lack of higher education opportunities for women in the Seraiki belt.
