The university's journey began in 2012 as a sub-campus of the University of Sargodha, established to provide tertiary education to a previously underserved area. Recognizing the region's immense potential, the Government of Punjab formally upgraded the campus to the independent University of Mianwali on December 13, 2019. Since then, it has transformed into a comprehensive divisional university, inheriting a legacy of academic excellence while introducing innovative degrees in informatics and the basic sciences.

For the 2026 session, fees are highly accessible. BS Computer Science (Morning) is approx 30,900 PKR for the 1st semester, dropping to 23,900 PKR for subsequent semesters. Self-Support (Evening) CS/SE programs are approx 57,600 PKR for the 1st semester and 49,100 PKR thereafter. Arts and Social Sciences (English, Psychology) are approx 26,800 PKR for the 1st semester. A one-time Admission/Registration package of approx 6,000 PKR is included in the initial entry semester.
