Founded in 1994 by the Usman Memorial Foundation in memory of Mohammad Usman Hasham. It initially operated in collaboration with the Technical University of Nova Scotia, Canada, and was long affiliated with Hamdard University and later NED University. In December 2021, it was granted an independent charter by the Government of Sindh, evolving into UIT University.

Fees vary significantly by track. BS Computer Science and Software Engineering are approx 196,200 PKR (1st Sem). BE Electrical Engineering programs are approx 157,200 PKR. Bachelor of Engineering Technology programs are much more affordable at approx 98,000 PKR per semester. A one-time admission fee of 25,000 PKR is included in the first semester.
