Larkana, Sindh
The clinical vanguard of Northern Sindh. [Image of SMBBMU Larkana Main Administration Block] SMBBMU is a premier public university serving as the tertiary healthcare hub for the Larkana and Sukkur divisions. It comprises the historic Chandka Medical College and specialized institutes for dentistry, nursing, and pharmacy. The university is distinguished by its massive $1,200$-bed teaching hospital complex and its community-oriented curriculum, which focuses on providing empathetic healthcare to the underprivileged populations of Sindh, Balochistan, and Lower Punjab. Recognized globally in the 1500+ bracket, it remains a pillar of surgical and medical research in the region.
The university's legacy is rooted in the vision of Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, who inaugurated Chandka Medical College (CMC) on April 20, 1973. Originally starting with 150 students in repurposed technical buildings, it became a symbol of academic hope for Upper Sindh. In response to a long-standing demand, the Sindh Assembly passed a bill in 2008 upgrading the college to a full university.
