Lahore, Punjab
Pakistan’s premier federally chartered center for design excellence. Located in Johar Town, PIFD is the only public sector institute in the country dedicated exclusively to the design industry. It is world-renowned for its rigorous studio-based curriculum and a 'Foundation Year' system that ensures every student masters the basics of visual arts before specializing. The institute serves as the primary talent feeder for Pakistan’s textile and fashion export sectors, offering state-of-the-art industrial sewing labs, weaving studios, and specialized gemological research facilities.
PIFD was established in 1994 as the 'Pakistan School of Fashion Design' (PSFD) under the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) to professionalize the textile industry. It was envisioned by the late Abu Shamim M. Ariff and initially affiliated with the prestigious L’Ecole de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne, France. In 2008, it was renamed to its current title and incorporated as a company. The institution reached its zenith on April 29, 2011, when it was granted a full degree-awarding federal charter by the Parliament of Pakistan, evolving from a project into a comprehensive chartered institute of international standing.
