NIU was established in 2015 by the NUR Foundation, building upon a century-long legacy of compassion and service started by the Fatima Memorial System in 1917. Founded to act as a catalyst for socio-economic development, the university transitioned from a specialized health sciences institute into a comprehensive university. It was chartered by the Government of Punjab to provide a multi-disciplinary platform where health research, public policy, and management sciences converge to serve the underprivileged communities of Pakistan.

For the 2026 cycle, tuition reflects the specialized clinical nature of the programs. DPT is approx 158,000 - 185,000 PKR per semester. BS Nursing and Nutritional Sciences are approx 93,000 - 108,000 PKR. A one-time Admission Fee (20,000 PKR) and refundable Security Deposit (5,000 PKR) are required at entry. An application processing fee of 1,500 PKR applies. Semester charges include a Clubs & Societies Fund (3,000 PKR) and Examination Fees (2,000 PKR).
