Uthal, Balochistan
Pakistan's primary guardian of the 'Blue Economy' and coastal heritage. Located in Uthal, District Lasbela, LUAWMS is the only university in the country with a specialized focus on Marine Sciences, Water Resources, and Arid-zone Agriculture. Situated strategically along the RCD Highway, it serves as the intellectual engine for Balochistan's 770km coastline. The university is a 'W' category institution recognized for its research in Marine Biology, Fisheries, and Integrated Water Resource Management, providing students with a rare opportunity to study oceanic ecosystems and sustainable agricultural practices in one of the world's most unique geological landscapes.
LUAWMS was founded on March 7, 2005, through an ordinance by the Government of Balochistan. Its inception was marked by a historic transition: the premises of the former Lasbela Textile Mills (LTM) were handed over by the federal government to serve as the university's main campus. Classes for the first batches of BS Marine Sciences and DVM began in November 2005. Since then, the university has evolved into a multi-campus institution, including its Wadh and Dera Murad Jamali campuses, becoming a pioneer in training Balochistan's youth for careers in the maritime and livestock sectors.
