Founded in 1962 by the Dawood Foundation, the institution's foundation stone was laid by President Ayub Khan. Originally named Dawood College of Engineering & Technology, it was nationalized in 1972 and subsequently elevated to full university status by the Government of Sindh in 2013. Today, it stands as a legacy institution with over 60 years of contributions to Pakistan's industrial and infrastructure development.

Fees are calculated per credit hour at a rate of $3,700 \text{ PKR/CrHr}$. A standard 18-hour semester costs approx $66,600 \text{ PKR}$ plus a fixed Semester Registration fee of $6,000 \text{ PKR}$. One-time admission charges (Admission + Security) are $10,000 \text{ PKR}$. Self-Finance donors pay an additional one-time package: $600,000 \text{ PKR}$ for Electronics/Computer Engineering and $300,000 \text{ PKR}$ for other disciplines.
