Baba Guru Nanak University (BGNU) is a newly established public sector university in the historic city of Nankana Sahib, the birthplace of Guru Nanak. Spanning 107 acres, the university is designed as a cultural and academic bridge, with a specialized focus on Punjabi language, Sikh heritage, and Khalsa studies. The campus features modern academic blocks, a central library system, and state-of-the-art laboratories. BGNU aims to accommodate over 20,000 students, fostering an environment of critical thinking and interfaith harmony while contributing to the knowledge-based economy of Pakistan.
The foundation stone was laid on October 28, 2019, to commemorate the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak. The university was formally chartered by the Government of Punjab through the BGNU Act (X of 2020) on July 02, 2020.
