Geography of Arabia

Arabia is a land of unparalleled charm and beauty, with trackless deserts of sand dunes under the dazzling sun. Makkah is situated about 50 miles from the Red Sea. The starry sky excites the imagination of poets and travelers.

Arabs' Culture (Pre-Islamic)

The Arabs possessed varying memories and were eloquent people. They held annual poetical competitions at Ukaz. Their language was Arabic, which became the medium for the Holy Quran due to its vastness and expressiveness.

Condition of Mankind Before Islam

Before Islam (5th-6th centuries), humanity stood on the verge of chaos. Civilization was crumbling. People practiced idol worship and treating others with injustice. Allah sent the Prophet (PBUH) to lift humanity from ignorance to enlightenment.

The First Revelation

When the Prophet (PBUH) was 38, he spent time in solitude in the Cave of Hira for meditation. Receieved first revelation (Surah Al-Alaq) at age 40: 'Read in the name of thy Lord Who created...'

Opposition and Determination

The pagan Arabs opposed the new faith (Islam) as it threatened their dominance. They pressured the Prophet’s uncle, Abu Talib, to stop him. The Prophet (PBUH) replied firmly: 'If they put the sun in my right hand and the moon in my left... I shall not abandon the proclamation of the Oneness of Allah.'
