Hazrat Asma (R.A) was the daughter of Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddique (R.A) and stepsister of Hazrat Ayesha (R.A). She was among the early few who accepted Islam. She was the wife of Hazrat Zubair bin al-Awwam (R.A) and mother of Hazrat Abdullah bin Zubair (R.A).
During the migration of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and Hazrat Abu Bakr (R.A) from Makkah to Madinah, Hazrat Asma (R.A) rendered useful services. She prepared food for this perilous journey and tied it on the camel's back with her own belt (Nitaq). For this service, she was given the title 'Zaat-un-Nitaqain' (She of the two belts) by the Holy Prophet (PBUH).
When Abu Jehl came to Hazrat Abu Bakr's home and angrily asked about him, Hazrat Asma (R.A) politely replied, 'How would I know?'. Upon this, Abu Jehl slapped her face so hard that her earring fell off, but she remained steadfast and did not reveal the secret.
Her grandfather, Hazrat Abu Quhafaa, was a disbeliever at that time and thought Abu Bakr (R.A) had taken all wealth. Hazrat Asma (R.A) gathered some pebbles, covered them with a cloth, and made him touch it to reassure him that they had left plenty of wealth for the family. This showed her wisdom.
